Changes to Traffic Management for the Races

I have received the following from Ian Renton, Regional Director, Cheltenham & the South West The Jockey Club.

"We are looking forward to the season ahead at Cheltenham Racecourse and wanted to inform you of a change in the traffic management that we will be trialling on two days (15 and 16 November) of the November meeting; if the trial is successful, our aim is to introduce the same traffic management for the four days of The Festival in March.

For the first two days of the 2019 November Meeting (on Friday 15 and Saturday 16, but not on Sunday 17 November) as racegoers leave the racecourse, a section of New Barn Lane between the main racecourse roundabout and the junction with Albert Drive will be shut to non-racing traffic. This is to improve the safety of the many thousands of pedestrians who leave the racecourse on foot as well as improving the movement of local bus services to the centre of town and the station. The road will be closed between the hours of 3.30pm and 5.30pm. We have worked alongside both Gloucestershire Police and the local council and hope that it will prove to be a successful trial both for the safety of our racegoers as well as for local residents. If successful, it will then be implemented at both The November Meeting and The Festival in future years.

Those who need access to residences or businesses in close proximity to the racecourse will still be able to reach their destination. Please just inform the stewards of where you need to reach and they will be able to accommodate you.

I hope that this road closure does not cause too much inconvenience to your journey on these days and thank you for your continued support of Cheltenham Racecourse and hope to welcome you here to a raceday during the season."
